Brian Watson

KeySource and its affiliate company KeySource HCI, LLC, provide strategic services for clients that serve the commercial and federal government, energy, defence, environmental and engineering/construction markets. They deliver unique and complimentary services that couple strategic business consulting with executive recruiting and human capital management, project/program development initiatives, to joint ventures, mergers & acquisitions, divestitures, consolidations and organizational re-structuring.

Mr. Watson is a former Managing Director of the UK’s Sellafield Site (1999 to 2004) and Executive Director of BNFL. As Sellafield Managing Director, he led a site workforce of 11,000 employees, hundreds of subcontractors, and an annual budget in excess of 1B£. His 35 year career in nuclear operations and executive assignments have included leading the commissioning and operation of the 2B£ Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (THORP), commissioning and operations of the Fuel Handling Plant (FHP), incorporating the Site Ion Exchange Effluent Plant (SIXEP) and the AGR Dismantler, and various leadership and supervisory positions throughout the plant operations.

Under his leadership, Mr. Watson achieved record Sellafield safety and production levels following the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) Team Inspection of Sellafield and the MOX plant data falsification incident in 1999. He drove critical change management initiatives and worked in close partnership with the local community, trade unions, and the workforce to overcome critical operational, regulatory and other challenges leading to a re-establishment of operational surety, record performance results and confidence of stakeholders. Early career assignments included serving as a Line Shift Manager in the Legacy Ponds and Silos area and the FHP. As an Executive Director of BNFL, he also contributed to the strategic development of and alignment with the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

Mr. Watson is an active member of the Cumbria community having served as leader of the Sellafield interface with the local community chairing the West Cumbria Development Fund, Whitehaven International Maritime Festival, and W3M/Whitehaven Development Company. He has served as a Board member on Cumbria Inward Investment Agency and Westlake Renaissance, and is currently President of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Mr. Watson is a graduate of University of Newcastle Upon Tyne with a BSc (Honors) in Chemical Engineering. Most recently, he has served as an independent consultant participating in the NDA’s Sellafield Competition process and formerly President, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
